This week's Film Noir is In a Lonely Place (1950) at 10 am ET on Sunday, September 17.

Our host, Eddie Muller, calls it "my favorite film of all time."

Humphrey Bogart plays a violence-prone screenwriter who becomes the top suspect when a hatcheck girl is killed. Gloria Graham co-stars.

This film was described as a realistic look at the "industry." At one point, somebody says "most writers are just popcorn salesmen."

Supposedly, Bogart plays a character more like his real-life self in this movie than at any other time.

TCM's Noir of the Week for Sunday, September 24, at 10 am ET, is Scandal Sheet (1952). Broderick Crawford stars as the editor of a large New York City newspaper, which he has turned into a trashy tabloid.

At a Lonely Hearts Club dance sponsored by the paper, Crawford's wife, whom he abandoned years earlier, threatens to make trouble for him. Crawford loses his temper and kills her. Crawford tries to cover up the murder, but his reporters dig into the story.

John Derek and Donna Reed costar as reporters. Phil Karlson directed. Scandal Sheet is based on a novel by a man host Eddie Muller calls "one of the greatest Americans of the Twentieth Century, Samuel Fuller."
