The disgraced ex-judge, Richard Baumgartner, went through four verdicts and four sentencing hearings without once acting as "13th Juror," as he was supposedly required to do by Tennessee law.
On Wednesday morning, I heard a radio interview of reporter Jamie Satterfield, who said Tennessee judges don't seem to pay attention to the 13th Juror law. This law is unique to Tennessee, according to Satterfield.
I'm waiting to see if Judge Blackwood acts as 13th Juror at Vanessa Coleman's sentencing on February 1.
Satterfield said in the interview that Judge Kurtz's ruling will hold up. She doesn't think the Tennessee Supreme Court will object and doubts the U.S. Supreme Court will even hear it.
Davidson's defense appealed to the U.S. Supreme Court months ago. If I heard Satterfield right, she said the Court declined.
